Following the archaeological excavations carried out in different phases in the Patio de Banderas, which covered an area of 700 square metres and made it possible to advance our knowledge of two thousand years of the history of our city, from the 9th century BC to the 12th century AD. After the completion of the work, in 2014 the Patio was provisionally covered with hollow concrete blocks and polystyrene panels, leaving the Archaeological Crypt as the only visible evidence of the excavation. However, the Crypt has remained closed to public visits until now. For the first time, the Board of Trustees of the Real Alcázar and the Seville City Council are opening the crypt to the public.
